Hey all;

Newbie to this forum, checking in.

I used to paddle a lot (lakes and mild whitewater in canoes and kayaks) in my early teens up in the Yukon. Its been a long time since I did any moving water paddling, and I'm trying to get back into it.

I've been borrowing a boat (Riot Nitro) from work for the last little bit and paddling around Willows Beach in Vic trying to get a feel back. Finally managed to complete the important part of an Eskimo Roll too..... I'd like to try running something swifter that the ocean, but I have no idea where to go around the south island, and no-one to paddle with at the moment. I'd like to buy my own gear, but I want to actually paddle a few times first to make sure I'm as into it as I think I am.

I've got a truck that'll get to pretty much any paddling spot conceivable, but carrying boats on it is a bit of a challenge. Here's a shot of it with the boat I've been using.

Kyle,
I'm under the impression there's no water in our rivers right now but if you come up to Ucluelet, we'll show a different "ocean" that might get your adreniline levels up. The club (VIWPS) hosts a surf-kayak weekend up here Sept 19-20 - a good way to get to know people. We're usually available on weekends to go for a surf, as well.

Where are you based out of? I have a full second set of gear. Well, except for a second helmet.

I am planning on heading out to the Cowichan once we get some water again, and I can find some other people to go with. I live in Victoria myself.

I'm actually headed up to Tofino with my brothers for a surfing trip next weekend (they're on boards, I'd like to bring the Kayak). Hence the reason I've been working so hard on my roll lately (had a pool session this evening, and I think my roll's getting good enough to tackle some surf). I don't know what the plan is or where we're actually hitting the water, but it would be sweet to have someone show me the ropes.

I live in Victoria as well.

Kyle,
Well, give us a call when you get out here and we'll see if we're available to come out - or give some advice on the best beach. I hope you have reservations for a place to stay - it's 0% vacancy time out here, right now.

I'll have to take you up on that. We're renting a house for the weekend so we're all good on a place to stay.

I'd love to join you on some trips out of Victoria. I have access to 3 boats and gear.

Let me know when you start to head out. I have 3 months off work starting Sept. 30 and am looking for as much paddling as I can get.
