Take pity on an Ontario boater!

So the local rivers and creeks are starting to drop in the Peterborough area, and soon we'll be left with long drives to the Ottawa (ok, that's unlikely to garner much sympathy).

BUT I'll be visiting family in Nanaimo from June 14-22, and I was hoping to try out a local river or two, surf kayaking, or tidal rapids. I've paddled on Van Isle before (Cowichan R., Nanaimo R., Jordan River and Long Beach surfing). I'm trying to find a rental boat in the Nanaimo area - I don't really want to drag all my gear on the plane - but I'll have a shuttle vehicle.

Any chance one of you folks out there would be interested in paddling for a day or two?

I may be back on the island then, I am currently in Toronto. I will be out on the Ottawa myself on the 24th & 25th of may.

There is a pretty active crew out that way. If the Puntledge (Courtney) is going off, make certain you get up there for that. You will have no trouble finding partners to paddle with.

You can rent a boat from the Warm Rapids Inn, which is right near the Cowichan Put in.

If you come out to the west coast, we've got a collection of surf kayaks - if you want to hit the waves in style.

George, I may see you on the Ottawa that weekend. I'm trying to pull together a few people for a road trip.

Is there much wave action in June? I'd give 'er a go! S-kayak are you in Tofino?

What is going off on the island always seems to vary, so I can't predict it that far in advance. Tofino nearly always has something going on.

I will be doing the Liquid Skills course, coming up on the Ottawa, and probably running the Ottawa (possibly again with Liquid Skills) every second weekend until around June 16. Then I will be back on the island.

I live in Victoria, I have 4 boats, so I could always lend you something when I am around.
