Hello all,

I just wanted to introduce myself here on this board. I have never kayaked any of the rivers here on the island, but would like to start somewhere. I have my own whitewater kayak and everything and consider myself a "beginner" kayaker with a tentative roll.

Since I live in the Parksville/Qualicum Beach area, I was thinking about making some runs on the Puntledge. Where is a good place to start out on that river? Is the Puntledge park a good place to put-in by myself or a place to meet some new people? I'm obviously an advocate of paddling with a buddy, but since I'm new here, I have to start somewhere. I would also like to find a place to watch some playboating.

Having said that, I've registered for the upcoming Puntledge festival so I am looking forward to meeting some new people and paddling down various parts of the river with some of them.

Thanks in advance for the information. I look forward to meeting you on the river.

Ed

You live in Coombs? We're practically neighbors.

I would definitely be interested in hitting the rivers that are closer to me since I've never done any runs on any of them. I'm a little rusty since I haven't even been out this year yet.

Have you paddlled any parts of the Englishman River or the Little Qualicum River or any other rivers that I don't know about that are close by to us? I'm fairly new to the area and I've already signed up for the Puntledge River festival so I can get acquainted with the paddling community and that river.

I'm not sure if you want to paddle with me. After my paddling session down the Puntledge on Saturday, I'd have to say that I need some more practicing to do. I really sucked on Saturday. I need to find a part of a river close to Qualicum where I can just practice eddying out, ferrying, and peeling out: The basics. Or perhaps take more clinics. Any suggestions?
